INT. Cave. Night.

Do you ever wonder where creative expression comes from? As I dive deep into the question I see myself in a cave, putting marks on a rock wall. Here, I am unable to comprehend comprehension, I am completely void of social influences, it is me and a wall, although the wall itself is a veil, which seperates this world from another world. Primordial instincts tell me that I am not alone. I place my hand on the wall becoming instantly connected to this other place and the veil dissolves, it becomes clear what I need to do.

Nepal and moments in creative spacetime.

To my friends in the east
I send you my thoughts and prayers

thank you, and send prayers to Nepal

I am currently making this print available for sale in Canada, and also a couple other options, because I want to send some relief funds to those affected by the recent earthquake in Nepal, the money raised will be going to a friend in Nepal, he is a bit of a mentor to me, and a pillar to his community. Please proceed to my FB hälts art Page : https://www.facebook.com/shanemahaloness if this is something that resonates with you. Mahaloness, hälts

Maui Wowi

The island called, and so I went.

Maui Dreamtime art, made while on a sojourn to Maui in 2012. Most of the materials used were bulding scraps gifted to me by a soul friend named Jim.

sometimes you just have to let go of the ego and become the unknown

from the 808 spray art remix collection

These artworks were made on repurposed bamboo flooring, and were drawn with a pen I found on the ground at the local coffee shop/office, which I later displayed in a lawn art show happening , when I get a chance I’ll try to dig up a few fotos from the archives.

an offering to the wind spirit

made on repurposed redwood that was well on its way to the local dump, so maybe this is dump art , which gves me an idea, a dump art show…

Guided Imagination

a form of imagination that goes beyond what we normally understand by the word: in the anthropologist Anna-Leena Siikala’s phrase, it consists in ‘setting aside the critical faculty and allowing emotions, fantasies and images to surface into awareness’.  -David Lewis-Williams ‘The Mind in the Cave’ p.134-35 c.2002 Thames & Hudson Ltd. Some of my murals are buried under layers of paint. This particular mural is intended to be a portal for achieving sensations and expereinces of the other world. It is also acts as a protective force feild that keeps trickster spirits away.

Maui Spirit Murals

These are what I would call Maui spirit murals. I made these in succession of one another over a period of 2 months while on a sojourn to Maui. How they came to be is a little diffucult to explain as I had not planned to do any murals while I was there, so for all intensive purposes they were the workings of ‘the Universe’. Certain things just aligned that I could not have planned for, doorways opened and I walked through them.

Hookipa spirit mural c.2012, painted at night during a new moon, it was pitch black and there were some very strange sounds coming form thr ocean that night, one of the most exhilirating painting experiences of my life. This mural lasted one day before being painted over, life is impermanent.

Dawn Patrol

Surfing and art get along well together.

fotoMahaloness

Mahaloness to the WSL Dawn Patrol who keep me connected to the ocean when I am far away. The ocean is a place I like to be whenever possible, surfing with my foamies, or foam children as my friend and fellow surfer Marcy calls us. Super Gracias.
